China Glaze Running in Circles

Oh how I love green glittery polishes! This is moving onto my list of favorites. It reminds me of a lighter version of Zoya Logan which I also adore. China Glaze Running in Circles is from the Cirque Du Soleil Collection as you probably know. It is a lovely grassy green with gold undertones. I also see a tiny bit of blue running through it. Just a little. The glitter is very fine which gives it a beautiful textured look. The formula was perfect, no complaints from me on this one! I used three coats but two would have been fine. I put a coat of Seche Vite on top to make it smooth and glossy. If you like green nail polish, pick this one up, it's gorgeous!

China Glaze Creative Fantasy

Hi Everyone! I'm back with another polish from China Glaze's Cirque Du Soleil Collection. I have two more to show you after this. I'll probably just do the last two together so I can move on to other polishes. =) I think that people will either love or hate the polish I'm showing you today. I love it but I do recognize that it's a bit of a pain (in my opinion). Creative Fantasy is dark purple crelly (jelly/creme) polish. Maybe it's just a jelly? I'm not sure on that one. 

 Creative Fantasy has pros and cons. Let's talk pros first. It's a lovely shade of purple and dries to a plastic/rubbery finish. I put Seche Vite on top which took changed the finish to a high gloss (sorry about the reflection in my nails). 

Here are the cons. The formula is difficult to work with. It took me five coats to make it opaque. Yep, f-i-v-e. In person, the tips don't look as sheer as the pictures show. It drags and makes the bottom and tips of the nails thin and the center thick. I even gave more dry time in between coats but that didn't help with the dragging issue. With less coats, it's a little lighter shade of purple but the uneven consistency drove me nuts. Despite the cons, I still like this polish. I just need to practice with it more (I think). 

I'm curious about how it will work with a jelly sandwich mani. Has anyone tried that with this polish yet?

China Glaze Get Carried Away

China Glaze got carried away alright. I want to love this polish so badly but it's just not happening. Being obsessed with glitter, I picked this up without a second thought. Sadly, I'm calling this a dud. 

 Get Carried Away has a black jelly base with way too much going on. There is black bar, coppery/orange and silver hex, and tiny black glitter. Did I miss anything? Probably. The problem is that the black jelly base covers up the glitter so you can barely see it if you wear it on it's own (pictures show 3 coats). If you wear it with something else, the black messes with the base color. 

 This polish is so packed with glitter that it is a beast to apply. It's hard to move around on the nail and doesn't self level, it just clumps. I've heard from other bloggers that adding thinner fixes that problem. I hope it works because I really want to love this!

I think if there was a little less glitter and a clear base this would be an amazing polish. Oh well, you can't win them all right? I still love you China Glaze!

China Glaze Bend Over Backwards

Thank you so much for your patience with my absence this past week. I haven't been feeling well and then I had some issues to figure out with my blog. That combined with Thanksgiving just took me away for a bit. I'm back and am picking up where I left off with my picks from the Cirque du Soleil collection from China Glaze. 

Today I have Bend Over Backwards to show you. It's a reddish orange shimmer that looks like it glows in the right light. It's very rich and applies perfectly. I only needed two thin coats and used Seche Vite for my top coat. If you like this shade, I recommend it. It's formula is wonderful.

Technical Difficulties

Hi Everyone! Happy Thanksgiving to my U.S. readers. I hope you had a wonderful holiday and were able to spend it with your loved ones. China Glaze Def Defying and Whirled Away

I'm going to show you two polishes today since I wore them together. =) Have I mentioned how much I love the Cirque du Soleil Collection? China Glaze really nailed it this time (har har har)! Warning, I haven't been sleeping well and I'm at the delirious giggly stage of sleep deprivation. I can not be held responsible for anything weird or cheesy I write today. That and grammatical errors. I'm glad we got that out of the way. Moving on.

So, today I'm going to show you Def Defying and Whirled Away. If you've been reading my blog for a while, you'll know several things about me. I am obsessed with glitter. I am a grown woman who would roll around in glitter if it weren't so hard to clean up. I'm also into green polish. I prefer dark green over light. Light green still scares me a little. 

I held Def Defying in my hand for a while and contemplated if I should buy it or not. It's pretty in the bottle but could my ultra pasty self pull it off? I figured if it was horrible I could return it and get another glitter so in the stash it went. 

I love it. 

I don't know what it is but I really like how it looks with my skin tone. It's weird and probably meant for people younger than me or for nail art but I don't care. It's awesome. Observe.

My camera made my hands look redder than they are in real life and Def Defying is a little lighter and more limey. 

I only needed two coats and it dried very glossy. The formula was pretty runny so I needed to wipe off the brush inside the bottle to make sure I didn't flood my cuticles. Once I got the extra polish off the brush, it was easy to work with. I gave it a little extra time to dry since it was so runny. The first coat was streaky and patchy but the second coat evened everything out. 

After I wore that for a day, I added Whirled Away to the mix.

Look familiar? 

I was so surprised to see a major nail polish brand make one of these. It's about time! There are SO many variations of the black and white glitter out in the indie polish world. They are more expensive than China Glaze and can be hard to get ahold of. I think it's pretty cool that they made this.

It's pretty easy to see what's going on in this polish. We have enormous white hex, medium black hex, and black bar glitter in a clear base. The formula is a little off in my opinion. There is too much base and not enough glitter. You'll get a pile of clear goo and a few specks of glitter on your nail if you apply it like a normal polish. I had to let the base drip off of my brush inside the bottle while trying not to loose too much glitter in the process. I dabbed the brush on my nail to manipulate the glitter to my liking. Next time I use this, I will just pull out the pieces with a toothpick.

China Glaze Its a Trap-eze!

A couple of days ago I stopped by my local Sally's to see what they had. I had recently seen a couple of posts about the Cirque Du Soleil collection China Glaze is releasing soon and wondered if they were on the shelves yet. I didn't see them out so I asked if they had them in the back and they did. I was so excited that I helped them open the box. They kindly let me go through it and pull out what I wanted. One of the girls who works there helped me pull the polish out. It was so much fun to watch her face every time we pulled out a polish. She completely freaked out when she found Whirled Away. Another employee heard us (we were being pretty loud and giggly) and came to look too. The box had three of each color and we claimed a lot of them. I hope they have another box in the back or order more soon because those polishes aren't making it to the shelf. <;)

 I picked out seven (I think) but was so tempted to grab them all. I tried to control myself a little I guess. =) I wanted to swatch them all and get them all up in one big post for you. Unfortunately, I just can't move that quickly so I'm going to show you one at a time. I know, it sounds weird to say that I can't paint my nails very fast. I'm trapped in a body that hurts 24/7 and even painting my nails is painful. I'm not telling you this so you'll feel bad for me. I just want to explain why I don't show collections or hauls all at once. 

So from the comfort of my bed and under all of my blankets, I'm going to tell you about my favorite polish from this collection. Its a Trap-eze!

China Glaze Its a Trap-eze!

Do you remember all of the multi colored glitter polish that was all the rage last year? Every brand came out with their own version. I had OPI Rainbow Connection from The Muppets Collection. This reminds me of those except instead of having a clear base it has a very light milky lavender base. I wasn't sure how this was going to look on but I couldn't resist picking it up. It looks like something from an indie line. Good job, China Glaze. 

I was pleasantly surprised with how easily it was to apply this. I only needed two coats, it applied smoothly even with how much glitter there is, and it dried quickly. I used Seche Vite for my top coat to make it extra glossy. I love this polish. Love it.

Zoya Electra

I'm not a fan of bar glitter, I think it looks like weird hairy glitters. I do, however, love holographic glitter which is what saves this polish for me. 

I decided to put it on by itself and make it opaque. I used two coats of Color Club Harp On It (silver holo) as my base color. Then I applied three coats of Electra. For the most part, I applied Electra with normal brush strokes. I dabbed the polish in here and there to make it even. With my finger, I pushed down the bars that were sticking over the edge of my nail. This needed two thick coats of Seche Vite to get a smooth surface. When I was ready to take it off, I simply peeled it off and threw it away. I used Elmer's Glue as my base coat making it easy to remove. My manicure stayed in place for about four days while I patiently waited for the sun to come back out. 

The sun never came back out so this picture was taken inside with flash to show the sparkles. 

It reminds me of the silver tinsel we put on our Christmas Tree when I was a little girl. I think it will be really fun on top of other colors or used in nail art.

Zoya Ziv

Zoya Ziv is more than your standard gold polish. At first glance, I thought this was Zoya Trixie's golden sister. Then, when I got it and put it on, I realized that there is more than meets the eye with Ziv. It has a foil finish with flakes of warmer gold and a teeny tiny bit of silver shimmer. The base is a yellow gold so the deeper gold flakes are a bit noticeable when the light hits it.

 It has a lovely formula, I used three coats and topped it off with Seche Vite to make it extra glossy. I thought I'd have bits of gold everywhere when I removed it but it came off really well. 

I usually don't care for gold, it just doesn't look very flattering against my skin tone. I get major lobster hands with golds and yellows. Ziv made me look a little pink but it wasn't as bad as other gold polishes tends to do. Go figure. 

I have already shown you these but here is some nail art using Ziv. 

I'm going to try to post Electra today as well. I hauled some great polishes yesterday and I want to focus on getting those up for you to see asap.

Zoya Logan

I used to think that green polish was obnoxious and wondered why anyone would ever wear it. Now, it's one of my favorite polish colors. I wasn't sure how I'd like Logan since it didn't have the holographic glitter Aurora, Blaze, and Storm have. I have plenty of green polish and wondered if this was special enough to buy. I'm glad I did because it is beautiful. I wore this for several days and got a lot of compliments on it. 

It has been stormy here lately so I had to take these pictures inside. It is soooo much more beautiful in real life. If you love green, I recommend adding this to your collection.

 Logan is a forest green with beautiful gold shimmer running throughout it. It's finish is kind of foil like but more shimmery. I also see a little bit of blue in the shimmer. It's very complex and interesting to look at. 

 Formula is fabulous. It applies smoothly, dries quickly, and is opaque in two coats. Be careful when removing, the gold shimmer is a little stubborn. 

 I think Logan would look really pretty with Zoya Ziv. I have a few ideas for those two. ;)

Zoya Aurora

Aurora is the third and last polish from The Ornate Collection (Zoya) that has holographic particles. Electra has holographic bar glitter but I'm talking about the small holo glitter that Blaze, Storm, and Aurora have. Aurora is, of course, one of my favorites from the collection. I am a sucker for anything that shines, sparkles, glows, etc. I love the way Zoya describes Aurora, so I'm going to quote them today.

 "Zoya Nail Polish in Aurora can be best described as a full coverage, medium sugarplum purple flecked with a high concentration of micro fine diamond holographic glitter. The rainbow holographic sparkle turns this plum purple into something truly captivating." 

Amen to that. I couldn't have described this beauty any better. 

When I saw the promos for the first time, I thought, "Eh, I don't need another black or gold and I have so many reds, purples, and greens. This collection has everything I already have." 

W R O N G 

That's what I was, wrong! I saw the swatches take over the interwebs and how packed with micro holographic goodness these polishes were and in an instant I was pre ordering the collection. As for the polishes that don't have the holo particles, they are also very special. I'm glad I have them to join my out of control lovely collection. 

Ok, you want to see Aurora already, enough jabbering! On it. 

In Shade

This is not the best representation of what Aurora looks like inside or in shade. The color is a little too blue toned in the picture. If you look at the color of the swatch below and put it with the glitter particles in the swatch above, that's what it looks like without direct sunlight.

It's gorgeous inside but this is where Aurora shines. For a scattered holo, this is pretty darn amazing don't you think?

Let's talk formula. I have had excellent luck with Zoya. They always have amazing formulas and Aurora is no different. It goes on smoothy but needs a second coat just to fill the areas that are a little thin to smooth everything out. It dries quickly, by the time I was done with my 2nd coat on both hands, I was ready to use my top coat. Wear time was great. I wore this one for a few days which is strange for me. I just had minor tip wear and that's it!!

I still have Logan, Ziv, and Electra to show you.
I've had Elelctra on my nails for three days now (I think) and it's driving me crazy! It won't stop snowing. There is no way I can capture how crazy sparkly my nails are without taking the pictures outside. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to get over it and take the pictures inside. I'll do my best to capture them!

No More H8 Day

I've had my fair share of drama in my life and try my best to stay out of it now. I've stayed far away from the issue that inspired today's anti-bullying campaign in the nail community. After giving it some thought, I decided that I wanted to support anything that had to do with standing up against bullying. It's an issue that I'm very passionate about as a former elementary school teacher and as someone who was bullied herself. 

I don't like to dwell on the past so I won't go into details about my experience with bullying. I do know, from what I went through that the emotional scars left by hurtful words and actions never go away. They eventually fade but they are still there. Understanding that shaped who I was as a teacher and person. I can not stand bullying on any level. It's wrong, it's not ok, it needs to stop. 

As an adult, I still feel guarded when it comes to letting new people into my life. As a little girl, I let people walk all over me. My self-esteem was in the toilet and I thought I deserved to be treated the way I was. I know differently now. Unfortunately, I've swung to the other extreme and have become hyper sensitive about how I am treated. If I feel someone is mistreating me, the walls go up and it's almost impossible for that person to gain my trust. I'm working on a happy medium, but it's hard! 

When I first started this nail blog, I was really self conscious about my pictures. I'm still self conscious about them, but I'm starting to feel a little more confidant. I have shaky hands. Strangers have commented on them. Friends have commented on them. They've been shaky since High School and I don't know why. Having shaky hands makes it really hard for me to paint my nails nicely. To make it worse, I had a herniated disc in my neck that was squishing my spinal cord. The little bugger weakened my hands. As a result, I sometimes struggle with doing things with my fingers like buttoning buttons and you guessed it, painting my nails. When I first started painting my nails, it was really hard for me to control the brush. I was determined to get better. I decided if I practiced long enough, I'd develop muscle memory and improve. It's been a year, and it's not as hard to paint my nails anymore but I still struggle. 

Luckily, I've only had positive comments on my blog. I'd be really bummed if someone criticized me. I'm doing the best I can with what I've got. Like everyone else, I thrive on support and positive feedback. It pisses me off when I see people mistreat others. No one knows what it's like to be someone else. Let's just be kind to each other, ok? 

Here are two different purple manis. One is from when I first started this blog and the other is recent. I dedicate this post to anyone who has been bullied and to the fight to stop it.

Zoya Storm

I have been looking for a polish like this for a while now. I have a few black polishes that have different types of glitter but they just weren't quite right. Storm is now my favorite black polish. It is full of small holographic glitter. It looks kind of like it's full of silver glitter inside but when you go outside, it comes alive.

Formula was typical of Zoya which is fabulous. I only needed two coats. It went on smoothly without any issue. Another must have from Zoya. Really, the entire Ornate Collection is a must have. It's truly amazing!

Zoya Blaze

I'm sure most of you have seen swatches of Zoya's Ornate Collection. They are all over right now and for good reason. They are gorgeous. I first saw pictures of them on a set of Zoya's spoons at a convention a while back. I thought they were pretty but I wasn't thrilled. I then heard that they were going to be scattered holographic polishes which of course got my attention again. After the first swatches hit my blog reader I was sold. I really love this collection. 

With how many swatches there are out there with the entire collection, I decided to show them one at a time. I had a rough few days and just couldn't get the whole collection ready to post today. I also, had a lot of fun photographing Blaze, Storm, and Aurora. I want to be able to show more pictures of their awesomeness. I have no idea which one of the three I love the most. I'm calling it a tie. 

Today as you can tell from the name of this post is all about Blaze. 

Blaze is a cranberry scattered holographic polish. These are the first holos Zoya have released and they did a great job. There are a ton of holographic particles, the formula is amazing, and they wear really well. I actually wore these for a few days and I only had a tiny bit of tip wear. Zoya rocks!

To use, prep nails like normal, followed by Base Coat and one layer of the magnetic lacquer. Then, apply a second coat of lacquer to the first nail; while still wet, position the finger onto the base of magnetizer placing it down. Press the top down so the magnet rests on the finger above the nail without touching the lacquer. Magnetize for about five seconds for the design to fully develop. Continue this process until all nails are painted and magnetized. Apply Top Coat once nails are dry.
